Glossary entry
An active order is an accepted instruction that remains eligible for execution under its current conditions and session rules. It may be waiting at a limit price or awaiting a specified trigger. Active describes status rather than a distinct price mechanism; the remaining quantity stays relevant until it fills, expires, is rejected, or is canceled.
Illustrative example
A limit order for 100 shares fills 40 shares. The remaining 60 can remain active if the order's duration and other conditions still permit execution.
What to consider
An instruction to cancel may arrive after a fill. Confirm the final order status before assuming remaining exposure has been removed.
