Glossary entry
The ask, also called the offer, is a price at which a seller is willing to sell an instrument. The best ask is the lowest currently available offer in the relevant market view. A buyer seeking immediate execution generally interacts with available asks, with the displayed quantity determining how much can trade at each level.
Illustrative example
An ask of 75.20 for 30 units means that quantity is offered at that price. Buying more may require accepting higher offers if available.
What to consider
An ask is time-sensitive and quantity-specific. It can change before an order arrives, particularly around news or during thin trading.
