Glossary entry

An order book records buying and selling interest submitted to a trading venue, commonly organized by price and quantity. The highest bid and lowest ask form the top of the book. Deeper levels show additional interest, but visible orders are only a partial picture because some liquidity is hidden or traded elsewhere.

Illustrative example

A book shows 100 units offered at 20.10 and 200 at 20.20. A large market buy may consume both price levels.

What to consider

Orders may change or disappear before execution. Displayed depth does not prove that the same liquidity will remain available.

General information, not a personal recommendation. Product availability, rights, and obligations are determined by the relevant provider, jurisdiction, and approved agreements.
