Read the full quote
Identify the base currency, quote currency, bid, ask and timestamp. A hypothetical EUR/USD purchase of 1,000 euros at 1.10 creates 1,100 dollars of quoted exposure before charges. If the quotation rises to 1.11, the change is ten dollars for that quantity. Different pair conventions and contract sizes change the arithmetic, so use the specific instrument's size and price increment rather than a memorized formula.
Connect events to a thesis
Choose the economic factors relevant to both currencies, including policy expectations and relative growth. Write what the market appears to expect and what would contradict that view. An announcement can move both currencies at once, making the pair's response less intuitive than a single-country headline suggests. Avoid treating a calendar's importance rating as a forecast of direction, magnitude or the availability of liquidity.
Budget all sources of loss
Translate an adverse price scenario into account currency before selecting a position size. Add spreads, financing and potential slippage; a stop level is an instruction threshold, not a universal guarantee of the final execution price. Correlated currency positions can compound the same exposure. Review aggregate risk across pairs, especially when several positions depend on the same interest-rate decision or a common funding currency.
Check provider and terms
Determine whether the service is deliverable currency exchange, OTC trading, futures or options. Review the counterparty, relevant registration, withdrawal process and treatment of disputes. Keep copies of the agreement and fee schedule. This guide does not supply a forex account or confirm FYLU product eligibility. Access information requires operator-approved documentation identifying the responsible provider, permitted regions and the legal terms governing each instrument.
