Understanding two-factor authentication

Learn how an additional authentication factor helps protect access and what to check during setup.

Educational guideSeptember 2026

How the extra factor works

Two-factor authentication combines two different kinds of evidence, such as a password and an authenticator or security key. It can reduce the damage caused by a stolen password, although it does not make every login attempt safe. An unexpected approval prompt deserves attention. Confirm the device and action being requested before approving it, and never forward a one-time code to someone claiming to provide support.

Prepare recovery before relying on it

For a service that offers this feature, use its verified security settings and follow the official enrollment instructions. Store recovery codes securely, separate from the device that generates login codes, and understand the lost-device process. FYLU has not confirmed a live two-factor enrollment or recovery flow. Do not submit authentication secrets to its preview screens or automated helper, or assume an illustrated switch protects a real account.
