Understanding cancellation of a pending payment

A cancellation request does not necessarily stop a payment that is already being processed.

Educational guideSeptember 2026

Check the stage first

A payment still awaiting submission may be easier to cancel than one already sent into a payment network. The method and provider determine whether cancellation is possible and what a pending status means. Read the latest status and distinguish cancellation from refund or reversal, which occur through different processes. Do not assume that closing a browser window cancels an authorization or that a displayed request has stopped moving.

Wait for a clear outcome

For a real payment, retain the cancellation request time and reference, then check for an explicit final status or confirmation. Review the sending account for a debit, released authorization or returned amount before creating a replacement. FYLU does not process live payments on this preview, so its controls cannot cancel a transfer. Ask the institution handling the actual payment about the available options and document any instructions it provides.
